Revamped Rumble Bees Lineup Not Enough for Watertown Wolves on Night One
The Battle Creek Rumble Bees prepare to traveled to upstate New York Friday night for the first of a two game set with the Watertown Wolves in a clash between the FPHL's oldest club (the Watertown Wolves began life as the 1000 Island Privateers during the league's inaugural season in 2010) and the newest FPHL franchise in the upstart Battle Creek Rumble Bees.
The Rumble Bees had previously found success in the Empire State this season picking up their first win in Elmira on January 3rd against the Enforcers. This trend would not continue on Friday night. After letting the Wolves get off to a quick start to the game, Deric Boudreau scoring in the game's opening minute, Battle Creek's Nathan Pelligra would add the game tying goal at the 2:33 mark in the first period in his first game back from injury. This would prove to be the Rumble Bees lone goal of the night as Joseph Deveny would notch the go ahead goal for Watertown later in the first period and never look back.
The rest of the game would prove uneventful for the Bees as the team would keep pace with the Wolves shooting, actually out shooting the club 22-21 over the last 2 periods but failing to find the back of the net. The Wolves would not face the same issue as Boudreau would add another goal in each period to complete his hat trick on then night. Friday night's game would also prove to be one of the cleanest games the Federal Prospects Hockey League had ever seen with the Rumble Bees only receiving 2 penalties for a combined 4 minutes and the Wolves completely avoiding the penalty box over the course of the night.
While it is not the outcome the Bees would have liked to see the game demonstrated the vast improvement the team has seen over the course of the season as they kept pace with the veteran Wolves on the night, something they were unable to accomplish at home against the same club in November. Nathan Pelligra would also receive the third star of the game in what was his first game since January 10th and will look to be a top contributor down the final stretch of the season.
The Rumble Bees will take on these same Watertown Wolves tomorrow night at 8 pm and you can follow all of the action with the voice of the Rumble Bees, Terry Ficorelli, on WFAT 102.7.
